The material characteristics of sheet metal material to be used, for example in the design of a new car, have to be determined and specified precisely and reproducibly in a test laboratory. An important magnitude to describe the material behaviour during the forming process and in case of a crash is the yield stress.
The forming limit diagram (FLD) offers the chance to determine process limitations in sheet metal forming and is used in the estimation of stamping characteristics of sheet metal materials.
In this paper the optical measurement system ARAMIS is presented that allows a high local resolution and highly precise strain analyses in sheet metal forming.
